Hi Squad,

👋It’s Sam, founder of GIR. I hope everyone is safe and well.

I’m popping in to spread some sunshine from our family to yours. It would be tone-deaf not to acknowledge the crazy, uncertain time we’re living in. I’m here for all of it with you. I’m looking for silver linings though, and ways to Do The Get It Right Thing. For me, this means getting back to the basics. As a kid, I spent afternoons cooking with my mom, Susan. That shaped my love for the kitchen. Now, I’m using this crazy turn of events to get back to that. With three kids of my own and in a world of uncertainty, that kitchen time is now sacred… it’s a time to disconnect from the news and reconnect with our family. It feels impossible to put the phone down for even a second these days, but I’m putting it down.

Yes, I’m working from home with three kids, and yes it’s totally crazy but I’m finding so much joy in these moments in the kitchen and I really want them for you, too. At GIR, we’ve used the hashtag #cookhappy a lot, and now it’s closer than ever to our hearts. It’s time for all of us to find some happiness in the home—we can’t go anywhere else, after all!

So while you’re hanging at home for the next few weeks and cooking a bit more than perhaps you’re used to, we want to make sure you’re equipped to #cookhappy too!

We’re extending a 50% off sitewide discount to everyone for the rest of March. Use code "COOKHAPPY" for 50% off + free shipping on orders $50+.

We’re dropping your cart total down from $50 to $25 in hopes that our tools will help bring a little bit of happiness to you and your family at a time like this. This isn’t a cash grab. We won’t make a ton of money on these sales. We just want to send you some cheer. I hope that in some small way our tools will bring happiness to you and your family at a time when we all need it most.

Here’s what else we’re doing

Our amazing factory partners in China are sending us some of their stock of N95 masks to us so that we can donate to hospitals and care centers. We’ve got 500 already on the way—it’s not a lot, and they’re hard to come by, but we’ll get as many as we can and put them in the places that need it most.

We’re also pledging to donate a portion of each sale in March and April to food banks in Seattle, New York, and Los Angeles to help support people that can’t access adequate meals in volatile climate. We’ll add to this list of cities as the impact grows more widespread.

And on a final note, we’re going to be sharing some of our family recipes, cooking at home, and cooking with our kiddos. We want to share our recipes and experiences, and we want to hear from you and connect with you too. Now, more than ever, cooking tools for little hands and recipes that the whole family can enjoy are going to create precious, unforgettable moments… or at the very least, be a welcome diversion from our screens.

We’re living in extraordinary times, but I’m looking for the bright spots. The chance to make almond cookies with my daughter in the afternoon, and the luxury of having lunch with my entire family at my kitchen table for the next few weeks… and also the chance to take a step back and think about how we can innovate; what are the next products we can make that Get It Right? What can we do to make a difference? What wonder is on the other side of this? Stay tuned.

With all my love + well wishes,
Sam
